The Terry Fowler family of Grove lost their home and contents and pickup truck in a fire last week but area churches and residents have stepped up with an overwhelming response to help the family, according to Randy Wacker, a family friend. The family has been offered a motorhome as temporary quarters and donations of clothing and personal items have been delivered. A fund has been established at the Bank of Grove as well.
Last August their son Chucki, age 24, died of brain cancer, and later Terry lost the job he had held for six years as pilot of the Cherokee Queen. In addition to the house, the fire also caused the death of the family dog, Susie. Persons wishing to donate may contact the Bank of Grove or Randy Wacker at 964-0757…Purchase of the 59 acre tract of land adjacent to the Grove Municipal Airport is still ongoing, although the property is back on the market by the sellers, Mike & Linda Prather. Terri Abercrombie, airport manager, said the grant application for $150,000 to the FAA will be made shortly, as the new appropriations bill was signed by the President. Price of the property is $315,000 with all but 5% being paid for from Federal funds, if the city receives the remainder of the grant monies…The bid-splitting hearing for City Manager Bill Galletly has been moved from Jan. 6 to next Monday at 10 a.m. in District Court in Jay…Voters in Delaware County approved the Emergency 911 proposal this week by the largest margin of the 9 counties in NE Oklahoma taking up the issue, 84% to 16%...The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe has filed notice to apply for a mixed beverage license at its Grand Lake Casino on Highway 10…Flu Vaccine for Grove physicians is still not available in sufficient quantities, even though Tulsa received 10,000 additional doses last week. Several local doctors report receiving only 40 doses each, about 10% of what they had ordered. Greg Martin, Integris Grove Hospital Administrator, said he would look into ways the hospital could assist in getting more vaccine available...Grove's First United Methodist Church has plans to purchase 22 acres of land on the north side of the church for future growth, pending member pledges and approval from district officials in Bartlesville. If the contingencies are met the deal should be done by mid-January.
