Tiger Wouldn't Have Been Welcome at Patricia Island GC

Tiger Woods, who first took up the game of golf at age 3, would not have been welcome at Patricia Island Golf Club, as new signs have gone up prohibiting anyone under the age of 8 from setting foot on the golf course grounds. That includes the practice green, the sandtrap, and driving range, and of course, the 18-hole golf course.
And Tiger shouldn't bring his First Tee program to Patricia Island either, as some of the kids are under age 8.
Little Megan, shown here, has five more years before she can use her family membership.
Golf course management says the new sign and policy helps to keep insurance costs down.

For once, there is an opinion expressed on your site that I can completely agree with. I do not understand the reasoning by the PIGC rule making. I started playing golf at 6 years old, and always suggest that people get their children invovled as soon as possible.

I have also worked at numerous golf courses around the country, and this is the one course where they use "insurance" to explain all of their rules. No other golf course keeps kids under 8 off a golf course, or make you have the golf carts in 30 minutes BEFORE sunset.

I could have sworn the goal of a golf course was to be their for the golfer, not make it "convenient" for the staff. You should be there til dark when the customers leave!! I will be perfectly happy to take anyone I know under 8 who wants to learn golf to another course.

This is a ridiculous PR goof for the golf club. Make 'em look like a bunch of foul-tempered curmudgeons. The sooner they wise up, rescind the policy, and move on, the better they will be.

Don't plan on having your kids under age 8 learn to play golf on the PI Golf Course even though you may have just bought a lot or house at Patricia Island. And if you brought so much as a stick of gum or a bottle of water from the "outside" you're in trouble. I hope the Realators around the Grove area take note. Next you'll have to leave the kids at home as you drive around Lake Breeze Rd. becase of "insurance purposes".
