City Council Candidates File for April Election
Let the games begin. Candidates who have filed for the April 7 Grove City Council election include:
Ward 3: Larry Parham (current city councilman)
David Adzigian (former councilman, current GIDA and airport trust authority member, lost to Parham two years ago by only 25 votes)
Ward 4: Gary Trippenssee (former Airport Board chairman)
Dustin Phillips (farmer, rancher, first political race ever)
Ben Hynum, (longtime Grove resident, organizer of the annual July 4 celebration)
At Large: Carolyn Nuckolls, (current Mayor)
Mike Davenport (bail bondsman, former city employee, sponsored petition drive to change form of government in Grove)
Harry W. Worley (Grove businessman)
Most observers feel that this will be the most important city election in many years and will shape the future of Grove for the next four years. City Manager Bill Galletly is set to retire this year and his employment should not be an issue in this election. The new Council will, however, be responsible for hiring a new City Manager and overseeing a large number of projects designed to move the city forward, make decisions on important matters such as the Civic Center and swim park, and oversee construction on highway 59 widening.
Future issues of The Observer will examine each candidate's views and qualifications.

Well looks like some wild cards! Does anyone know where Harry Worley and Dustin Phillips line up?
They line up in support of Bill Galletly the best City Manager the City has ever had.
Dustin Phillips is a good friend of Andy and David Helms. Harry Worley is a supporter of Bill Galletly and Company.

Of course the Bill Galletly will be an issue. Supporters of the divisive, incompetent, and convicted lawbreaker will be accountable for their positions. Past or current support for him indicates a lack of judgement and complete disregard for the interests of the citizens of Grove.
I agree with the editor that this is an important election, for the City of Grove. Grove is at a crossroad in municipal politics. Many issues are at stake including higher sales tax, property tax and water and gas surcharges under the current government. Most importantly is the current control of the city by three counsil members on GIDA, GMSA and City Council. Decisions on these boards are allready decided before the boards convene and are taken to council. The control of the city must be taken back by the voters.
In Ward 3 it is dissapointing that David Adzigian is running against Larry Parham. He has personally told me that he would not run against Larry, on two occasions the latest being Super bowl Sunday. He now has a trust issue that will be difficult to overcome! He is a member of GIDA and GMAA. As councilman he would be on 2 boards and a council member if elected. Not what the city needs.
Ward 4. We have been blessed that David Helms is not running for re-election! Helms has had a huge impact in creating division within the city and controversy. Dustin Phillips we understand has no interest in politics, why he is running is questionable. We do know he is associated with Andy and David Helms and sat with Andy during the last council meeting, we are told. We hope he is not a Pawn.
As for Ben Hynum he is a surprize entry who GrovePAC will be looking into more thourougly, but will not be supporting. Gary Treppensee has an outstanding and impressive Biography and back ground. 11 yrs with McDonald Douglas and 14 yrs with NASA working on the X program at Edawrds. Owns two planes, a hanger and an active pilot. Turned down for re-appointment to the Grove Airport Board for not being Quailyfied enough according to Mayor Nuckolls and replaced by Bob Brogdan and David Helms.
At Large is Carolyn Nuckolls who is at the center of many of Groves problems. Her appointments to various boards have been Horrible and questionable. She has displayed over the last year by her voting record that she is a follower rather then a leader. Its time for a change and Mayor Nuckolls must go, for the good of Grove! I know vary little about Harry Worely but am told by many he is a strong supporter of Bill Galletly. he is well known by many in Grove and will pull some votes. But is he really the right person for the job? GrovePAC will be supporting Mike Davenport for City Council. Davenport has an impressive knowledge of the city's internal workings from 12 yrs as a City employee with GMSA. Each time i visit with him I am impressed with how much he understands the city infrastructure. Davenport should be elected to Council and is the only Council Member we believe who should be on GMSA!
Let us not confuse the issues of Bill Galletly. This election is not about him but rather his supervisers. Some of those supervisers have been negligent in there responsabilities to the public.
Let the Games begin!

Harry Worley's campaign slogan could well be:
"I see dead people."
Who could lose with that one...

GrovePAC???? Leave it to the airport group. Man they really want to take over this city don't they. Boss Hog is alive and well!!
We need to get back to the days of 15 minute council meetings of the former city manager and council. Back to the days when no public discussion of agenda items was allowed. Back to the days when illegal meetings of public bodies were commonplace and accepted in practice. Back to the days when privilege and favoritism were bestowed on those fortunate city employees and members of the community.
Go GrovePAC! Return us to those days!
To anonymous 1:12 Just because I fly for my Buisness and my buisness has 2 planes and a hanger at the airport does not mean the airport has anything to do with this. There are some in town that think this when they hear my name. I don't really care for the label, but if that is what you really think then you truly do not understand the issues the community faces! Are you David Helms?
For the 1:33 post. Thats funny! with the exception of the 15 mins that is were we are now. What council meeting have you been going too?
Who is Dustin Phillips and why is he running? Overheard at the last City Council meeting: Dave Helms "So Dusty, what did you think of your first City Council meeting?" "It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be" responded Mr. Phillips.
Wonder why he is running???
