Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

I guess I am not up to speed on everything going on in Grove. I just found out yesterday about the consideration by C/M and the council of building a 4.5 to 5 Million dollar "Aquatic Park". The information stated that some kind of feasibility study would have to be done (That always cost big bucks) before getting it on a ballot for a vote by the people. Looks like to me that if there is an estimated cost, it could be put to a vote before spending the money on a study. Then, if the people voted for it, the study could be done.
I doubt that this is a good time to consider ANOTHER big project for Grove. We still have the 18th street project, the highway 59 project (which I hear ODOT has postponed construction on to 2008) in the works, the cemetery (which we spent considerable money to determine if it should be someplace besides the land that was originally purchased FOR the cemetery expansion), the communication tower, and a new water tower and a boatload of smaller things that need to be considered. I think our plate is full right now.

Editor's Comment: The people need to know what they are voting on, how much it will cost them, and what it will look like. This means doing a plan prior to election.
Next April will be a defining moment in Grove's history...to move forward, or return backward.

To the Editor: You know one man is the focal point for the controversey in the City Of Grove. If a City Council is elected, which chooses to terminate The City Manager. It Surely doesnt not mean the city will move backwards!!! Far From it, Grove might begin heal, if we get good City Manager.

We hear the Comment: Elements of the City want a return to the Good old boy system. This is nothing but spin. We have achieved nothing but, have traded one set of Good old boys for another. This is how American politics works, On the National State and Local levels. Newly elected official's hand out pork to their buddies and the people who helped them get elected. The Current city council is no different. Therfore If the City Manager is Smart,He keeps the Council Men happy that Vote En Bloc( The city Manager has been good at this). The Hirings and Firing Of one man will not change any of this. What can change is the Controversey, and polictical in fighting.
The City Can Move Forward,Prosper and Grow. Our current City Manager isnt the only capable City Manager out there.

Three City Council seats are up for April's election; by then, the city manager may not be an issue. Hopefully, good candidates will step up and run for office but the events of the past two years will make any good citizen think twice about running. That leaves those with their own personal agendas who oppose any progressive ideas for the good of Grove. We hope that every registered voter will examine the issues and turn out to vote.

All of the ridiculous happenings in the city of Grove didn't start with this city council...It has been going on for many years...Some council members came onboard with their own (or members of their 'round table') agendas...
There have been defectors from the council to other city boards, consequently, serving two masters.
(which always caused confusion and disharmony)..
Some present members have ignored their 'calling' and thrown ethics to the wind in pursuit of their personal desires.
In viewing the TV replays of Council meetings, it is obvious that certain members of the council have a mindset to try and discredit the staff and, especially the city manager.
At the last televised meeting, a council member questioned some figures presented by the C/M, which is certainly acceptable, but, each member gets their agenda packages 3 to 4 days prior to a meeting and if their are questions, then they have ample time to discuss figures with the C/M and not have to spend time at a public meeting attempting to discredit the C/M...And even after a public discussion and resolution to the satisfaction of the other members, votes 'nay'...(4-1 vote)
It has been mentioned several times from on council member about serving his supporters...I happen to be a resident/voter in Grove and I certainly do not support many actions that we are getting blamed for...Let him stand on his own and don't blame voters for the distractions he creates...
